A Flag with 50 Stars

The first American flag to have red and white stripes and white stars on a blue field was flown in 1776, shortly after the United States declared its independence from Great Britain. Legend has it that a Philadelphia seamstress named Betsy Ross was hired by George Washington himself to create this flag. There is no evidence that this legend is true, and no one knows for certain who made the first flag, which had 13 stars and 13 stripes. However, we know for a fact that the first flag to have 50 stars—the one we have today—was designed by a high school student.

In 1958, Bob Heft was a 17-year-old student at Lancaster High School in Ohio. At that time, the United States had only 48 states but was on the verge of accepting two more: Alaska and Hawaii. The U.S. flag at the time had six neat rows of eight stars each. What would be the best way to add two more stars while keeping the arrangement neat and orderly? This was the question that Bob’s history teacher posed to the class.

The teacher gave the students an assignment: design a flag with 50 stars. Bob spent hours in the attic of his house, cutting up a 48-star flag and rearranging the stars until they fit just right. He was pleased with his solution to the problem, but his teacher found it less than perfect and gave him a B minus. Outraged, Bob told his teacher that he was going to send his design to his member of Congress, Walter Moeller. His teacher replied that if Bob’s design was accepted as the new flag, he would be more than happy to change the grade to an A.

A year later, Bob had graduated and was working as a draftsman when he received a call at work. He never would have imagined a call from President Eisenhower—but that's who it was! Now that Alaska and Hawaii had been admitted as states, Congressman Moeller had succeeded in having Bob's design chosen as the new U.S. flag. Bob Heft was invited to Washington, D.C., for a ceremony during which his design was officially adopted as the new flag of the United States.

write a speech on the role of student to present in the morning assembly to maintain sanitation in school

Answers

Answer:

School children spend about one third of their time either in schools or doing school assignments, during which time they may be exposed to a variety of physical, social and psychological harm. Schools provide an ideal opportunity to detect poor hygiene practice by children.

The water supply and sanitation conditions of schools have become a public health concern in recent years. A Ministry of Health report in 2007 about school hygiene in Ethiopia indicated that the majority of surveyed primary schools did not have access to drinking water sources or adequate sanitation facilities for handwashing and excreta disposal. School dropouts are observed among female students due to a lack of latrines with facilities for menstrual hygiene. The report also found that the hygiene knowledge of the prevention of communicable diseases was poorly understood by students.

Other studies in Ethiopia among school children indicate that upper respiratory infections, skin infections, abdominal discomfort, eye infections, gastro-enteritis (diarrhoea) and tonsillitis are the commonest ailments for school clinic visits. Helminthic infections such as ascariasis and hookworm are prevalent because of the prevailing poor personal hygiene and waste management in the school and home environment.

The provision of school hygiene and sanitation ensures the rights of students to acceptable hygiene practices, safe water supply, latrines and a healthy school environment in general. The impact could have further beneficial effects, for example:

Healthy environments facilitate more effective learning.

Opportunities for students to gain life-long positive hygiene behaviours.

Opportunities for increased school enrolment, retention and attendance for girls.

What do you do to an irregular verb to put it in past tense

Answers

Answer:

An irregular verb is one that does not form its simple past tense or its past participle by adding "-ed" or "-d" to the base form. Irregular verbs contrast with regular verbs, which form the simple past tense and past participle by adding "-ed" or "-d."

Explanation:

Since there are no specific rules regarding conjugating the tenses of irregular verbs, the only way to really learn them is to keep your ears open. Every time you learn a new verb, make sure you know all the conjugations of that verb so that when you use it you don't misspeak

How does his interaction with James Forster in paragraphs 9-11 develop the complexity
of Fogg's character

Answers

Hello. You forgot to show the answer options. The options are:

It contrasts his love of luxury with the lifestyle he provides for his servants.

It contrasts the generosity of his charitable contributions with his rigid nature.

It contrasts his desire for travel and adventure with the routine that he follows.

It contrasts his erratic behavior with the strict schedule he maintains.

Answer:

It contrasts the generosity of his charitable contributions with his rigid nature.

Explanation:

Fogg is portrayed as a rich and very generous man, showing himself as an admirable and good character, however, he has an extremely rigid nature, promoting absurd behaviors, as can be seen in the interaction between him and his servant James Foster. That's because James Foster was fired, without any regard, because he took the shaving water two degrees below the temperature that Fogg had requested.

Discuss with a partner, how close you are to being able to show or have ubuntu in the way it

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

My main area of difficulty to present ubuntu is patience, especially with people who are difficult to deal with and who usually hinder simple processes. This lack of patience can be considered a difficulty in presenting the ubuntun, because ubuntun refers to the ability of a human being to interact with people in a peaceful way, with humility and respect.

Although I present this difficulty, I am working to suppress it and express ubuntun in its best form.

Writing prompt Final draft write a compare and contrast analysis of how culture shapes of heroes in heart of a samurai and black ships before troy has to be 150 words Plz help me

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

In "Black Ships Before Troy" we can see Lacoon's attempt to prevent the construction of a wooden horse to invade Troy, he wants to free Troy for this invasion and for that reason he tries, repeatedly, to warn the Trojans about the Greeks' intentions is killed by sea snakes before doing this. This death is seen by the Trojans as an interference from the goddess Athena, for having doubt of the representation of peace that the horse presented. In this case, culture has a strong role in the perception of people who have come to believe that everything is interference from the gods.

In "Heart of a Samurai" we are introduced to a boy who wants to become a samurai, but he belongs to a family of fishermen and it is cultural in the region that people follow their parents' profession, which prevents the boy from becoming a samurai. The boy eventually becomes a samurai, but that took time because he had to go over cultural concepts.

Answer:

Culture has a significant impact on heroes. For starters, it influences how a person or character perceives a particular situation or idea, as well as their point of view on a variety of ideas and topics. Next, it has an impact on how the hero is portrayed in the story. Third, it influences how a character reacts to an idea or situation.

Culture has an impact on heroes. We see an example of this in 'Black Ships Before Troy,' where in Achilles' culture, to be a hero, you must be brave and fight. This is also evident in 'Heart of a Samurai,' where Manjiro's culture dictates that in order to be a hero, you must provide for your family.
