Answer 1

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

It's a 30-60-90 triangle. The sides of a 30-60-90 triangle are in the ratio 1:√3:2

The side opposite the 90° angle is 12√3, so the side opposite the 30° is (12√3)/2 = 6√3.

The side opposite the 60° angle is (6√3)√3 = 18

x = 18

Explain why the absolute value function y = |x| is an example of a piecewise function

Because this requires two different processes or pieces, the absolute value function is an example of a piecewise function. A piecewise function is a function in which more than one formula is used to define the output over different pieces of the domain.

(a) Calculate the percentage increase or decrease for
(0) TV and
) Laptop
(b) Which item has the best reduced price?
Cho can anyone help me

Answers

Answer:

(a)

[tex]\%Decrease= 12.5\%[/tex] --- TV

[tex]\%Decrease= 20\%[/tex] --- Laptop

(b) Laptop

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Normal                       Sales

[tex]TV = 2000[/tex]                  [tex]TV = 1750[/tex]

[tex]Laptop = 1800[/tex]             [tex]Laptop = 1440[/tex]

Solving (a): Percentage increase of decrease for both

Percentage change is calculated as:

[tex]\%Change = \frac{New - Old}{Old} * 100\%[/tex]

For TV

[tex]\%Change = \frac{1750 - 2000}{2000} * 100\%[/tex]

[tex]\%Change = \frac{-250}{2000} * 100\%[/tex]

[tex]\%Change = -0.125* 100\%[/tex]

[tex]\%Change = -12.5\%[/tex]

It is a decrease because it is negative

[tex]\%Decrease= 12.5\%[/tex]

For Laptop

[tex]\%Change = \frac{1440 - 1800}{1800} * 100\%[/tex]

[tex]\%Change = \frac{-360}{1800} * 100\%[/tex]

[tex]\%Change = -0.2* 100\%[/tex]

[tex]\%Change = -20\%[/tex]

It is a decrease because it is negative

[tex]\%Decrease= 20\%[/tex]

Solving (b):

Laptop has the best reduced price  because it has a larger percentage decrease

A golf instructor offers 1-hour private lessons from 2 pm to 6 pm every Saturday afternoon. His hourly rate is $60. The instructor takes appointments during the weekdays. Recently, the instructor receives quite a few late cancellations in Saturday morning. He can do nothing given the short notice. Therefore, the instructor institutes an overbooking policy. In case a customer cannot be served, the instructor will give a $40 certificate (he buys it from the golf club) for a free round of golf. The number of no-shows can be 1, 2, 3, or 4, each with a probability of 0.25. How many reservations should the instructor take

Answers

Answer:

The answer is 8.

Step-by-step explanation:

He is guaranteed to make $240 between 2 and 6 pm every Saturday afternoon. For each time that both of the 2 customers booked for the same hour does not cancel, he earns only $20. Considering that the probability of cancellation is 25%, if he books 8 customers for the 4 hour period on Saturday afternoon, he is making an extra $80 which bumps up his total earnings to $320. If he accepts any booking after 8, each is going to cost him $40. So the total number of reservations he should take is 8.

y=mx+b

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1), we have points (-3,-6) and (2,-2) so

m=(-2-(-6))/(2-(-3))

m=4/5 or 0.8 so our line is now

y=0.8x+b, using point (2,-2) we can solve for b

-2=0.8(2)+b

-2=1.6+b

b=-3.6 so the line is

Step-by-step explanation:

For all the recent strides we’ve made in the math world, like how a supercomputer finally solved the Sum of Three Cubes problem that puzzled mathematicians for 65 years, we’re forever crunching calculations in pursuit of deeper numerical knowledge. Some math problems have been challenging us for centuries, and while brain-busters like the ones that follow may seem impossible, someone is bound to solve ‘em eventually. Maybe.

For now, take a crack at the toughest math problems known to man, woman, and machine.

1. The Collatz Conjecture

DAVE LINKLETTER

Earlier this month, news broke of progress on this 82-year-old question, thanks to prolific mathematician Terence Tao. And while the story of Tao’s breakthrough is good news, the problem isn’t fully solved.

A refresher on the Collatz Conjecture: It’s all about that function f(n), shown above, which takes even numbers and cuts them in half, while odd numbers get tripled and then added to 1. Take any natural number, apply f, then apply f again and again. You eventually land on 1, for every number we’ve ever checked. The Conjecture is that this is true for all natural numbers.

Tao’s recent work is a near-solution to the Collatz Conjecture in some subtle ways. But his methods most likely can’t be adapted to yield a complete solution to the problem, as he subsequently explained. So we might be working on it for decades longer.

The Conjecture is in the math discipline known as Dynamical Systems, or the study of situations that change over time in semi-predictable ways. It looks like a simple, innocuous question, but that’s what makes it special. Why is such a basic question so hard to answer? It serves as a benchmark for our understanding; once we solve it, then we can proceed to much more complicated matters.

The study of dynamical systems could become more robust than anyone today could imagine. But we’ll need to solve the Collatz Conjecture for the subject to flourish.

20 percent of what number equals 30; Answer: 150.

Step-by-step explanation:

20% of what is 30?

Written using the formula: X = 30 ÷ 20%

Convert the percent to a decimal.

20% ÷ 100 = 0.2.

X = 30 ÷ 0.2.

X = 150.

So 20% of 150 is 30.

Answer:  1) 70°  2) x = 55

Step-by-step explanation:

1) If m∠1 = 70°,then m∠8 = 70°.

Because m∠8 is the vertical angle of m∠5, and m∠5 is the corresponding angle of m∠1, which means that m∠8 = m∠1 = 70°. And also m∠1 and m∠8 are alternate exterior angles, they equal to each other.

2) m∠4 = 70°, and m∠7 = 2x, then m∠4 + m∠7 = 180°,because they are consecutive interior angles.

m∠4 + m∠7 = 180°

70 + 2x = 180

2x = 110

x = 55

A jewelry store offers its own brand of customizable charm bracelets. You are able to choose from 9
different charms for your bracelet.
How many different charm bracelets is it possible to create?

Answers

Answer:

It depends on the number of charms that your bracelet can have.

here we need to count the number of selections that we have, and the number of options for each one of these selections.

So if we can have only one charm, we have only one selection, and for that selection, we have 9 options, then there are 9 different one-charm bracelets.

If each bracelet can have 2 charms then we have two selections.

For the first selection, we have 9 options,

If each charm can be selected only one time, then for the next selection we will have 8 options, now the total number of combinations is equal to the product between the numbers of options for each selection, so here the total number of combinations is:

C = 9*8 = 72

If we can select 3 charms, then:

first charm = 9 options

second charm = 8 options

third charm = 7 options

Total number of combinations = 9*8*7 = 504 combinations.

Notice that we can not give an exact answer because we do not know the number of charms in each bracelet and we do not know if a charm can be selected multiple times or only one, but here you could see the general way to solve this kind of problems.
