I'm writing to express my disagreement to our neighborhood elementary school's proposed termination of the well-liked cross-grade pals program.
I can witness to the importance of the program and the beneficial effects it had on my life as a previous participant at Boynton Elementary. Each sixth grader participating in the program must spend one hour each week in a first grade classroom.
The student spends this time reading to their buddy, playing educational games, and engaging in social activities. Students can practice speaking, listening, and social skills with the aid of this activity. I am interested in this program even though I am in high school now because my little sister is currently a first-grader.
Cross-grade buddy time, according to Superintendent Johnson, consumes an excessive amount of core academic time. But I firmly believe that this program enhances rather than subtracts from learning. As a result, I implore the school board to rethink its decision to end the cross-grade pals program.
